National School of Drama and “Hum Qadam” Theatre Group Launch First-Ever Children’s Theatre Workshop in Meerut

Meerut | May 19, 2025 – In a significant cultural initiative for the city of Meerut, a press conference was held today at The Academy – A Unit of MSM, located at F-17, Shastri Nagar, near Kuti Chauraha, to announce the launch of a Children’s Theatre Workshop jointly organized by National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi and Hum Qadam Natya Sanstha, Meerut.

Key dignitaries present at the press conference included Manoj Ramela, Deputy Registrar, NSD, Suman Ved, Head of Festival Cell, NSD, and Tasabbar Ali, an expert in children’s theatre. They shared details about the workshop, stating that the Children’s Theatre Wing of NSD is conducting similar programs across various states in India, and now, for the first time, Meerut will host one as well.

Approval for this workshop was granted by Chittaranjan Tripathi, Director, NSD, and Pradeep Kumar Mohanty, Registrar, NSD. The workshop aims to use theatre as a medium to foster social unity, emotional sensitivity, and environmental awareness among children in a fun, interactive manner.

The month-long workshop will be held from May 21 to June 19, 2025, at The Academy. It will feature the special participation of Prof. Aslam Jamshedpuri, Head of the Urdu Department at Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut.

Speaking at the event, Assistant Professor Irshad Shianvi emphasized the importance of such a workshop for Meerut, calling it a “matter of pride” for the city’s educational and cultural ecosystem.

Smita Sharma, Chairperson of The Academy, highlighted that theatre plays a vital role in shaping confident and socially aware individuals. “Children are the future of this country. Initiatives like this open up new avenues for their holistic growth,” she said.

Gulzar Saifi, an Oscar-nominated short documentary artist, and Sonu Kapoor, Vice President of Hum Qadam, also addressed the media. They called this initiative a “historic moment” for Meerut’s cultural landscape.

Also present at the event were Prof. Vidushi Sharma, Dean, The Academy (Master School of Management), Sumiti Singh, Principal of The Academy, along with Rubina Noor (Treasurer), Abid (Secretary), Gulshan, Mamta Singh, and Israr Ahmed, all associated with Hum Qadam Natya Sanstha.

This collaborative effort between NSD and local institutions promises to leave a lasting impact on children by equipping them with life skills, creative thinking, and a deeper understanding of their societal surroundings – all through the powerful lens of theatre.
