Municipal Corporation and MDA Will Study to Run Mono Rail In Meerut, The Process Will Start Soon

Meerut: The exercise of running the metro from Meerut’s Shraddhapuri to Gokalpur has started taking wings. The responsibility has been given to the MDA and the Municipal Corporation on behalf of the Urban Development Department. The Municipal Corporation will prepare a comprehensive mobility plan (traffic study) in the city.

With this, the number of vehicles, and a number of passengers will be known about running the metro. The Comprehensive Mobility Plan was prepared in the year 2017, its validity expired in 2022. Now the plan will have to be prepared again in 2022. After this, MDA will hand over the responsibility for the monorail in Meerut to RITES.

In the year 2017, a survey was done to run the metro in the northern zone (from Shraddhapuri to Gokalpur) in Meerut. Stations were also fixed. The Metro cell in MDA was also inaugurated by the then commissioner Alok Sinha but all the work continued in the files.

Now in view of the increasing traffic in Meerut, the government is paying attention to running the metro. For this, Metro is proposed to be operated on the track of Rapid Rail on South Zone (Delhi Road). The work on this track is also being done by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation.

Discussion on these options
1. Light Metro – With this option, the government is trying to connect the transport mode in Meerut to the northern region. The cost of the light metro is less. At the same time, Light Metro has also been successful on shorter routes. For running the metro in new cities, attention is being given to the light metro option only.

2. Mono Rail – Mono Rail was run in Mumbai. Monorail runs on only one beam. The government is also considering running it. In the year 2014, the country’s first mono-rail was run in Mumbai.

things will move on soon
Will sit and talk with municipal officials. The government has given the responsibility to the municipal corporation for a comprehensive mobility plan. Our effort is to study the traffic as soon as possible and move forward.
