Meerut Medical College Achieves Another Milestone in Cardiac Treatment

Meerut : Under the leadership of Dr. R.C. Gupta, Principal of Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial Medical College, Meerut, the institution continues to achieve new medical advancements. In a significant breakthrough, the Cardiology Department successfully treated a patient using the Pulmonary Valve Balloon Dilatation (PVBD) technique, marking a major achievement in non-surgical cardiac treatment.
Patient’s Struggle and Diagnosis
An 18-year-old woman, Nagma (name changed) had been suffering from breathlessness and anxiety for a long time. Despite multiple treatments at private hospitals, she found no relief. Seeking further medical assistance, she consulted Dr. Dheeraj Soni, Head of the Cardiology Department, at Meerut Medical College through OPD services.
After conducting a 2D Echocardiography, doctors identified that the patient’s pulmonary valve was malfunctioning, leading to increased pressure and restricted blood flow. The condition required immediate intervention to prevent further complications.
Advanced Treatment Under Ayushman Bharat Scheme
Doctors explained the balloon dilation procedure to the patient’s family, assuring them of its effectiveness. The treatment, which typically costs between ₹1 lakh to ₹1.5 lakh in private hospitals, was performed free of cost under the government’s Ayushman Bharat scheme.
In this minimally invasive technique, a balloon catheter was inserted through a wire into the affected pulmonary valve and expanded to clear the blockage, restoring normal blood flow.
Following the procedure, the patient showed significant improvement, with a noticeable reduction in symptoms. The operation was conducted successfully by a dedicated team of cardiologists and anesthetists.
Recognition and Future Prospects
Dr. R.C. Gupta, Principal of Meerut Medical College, congratulated the entire cardiology team for this successful procedure and encouraged them to continue working towards patient welfare and medical excellence.
This achievement reaffirms Meerut Medical College’s commitment to providing advanced healthcare services at affordable costs, ensuring that life-saving treatments are accessible to all.
