Meerut : Bharatiya Kisan Union Maha Panchayat at Urja Bhawan
Meerut : Bhartiya Kisan Union in protest of installation of meters on tube wells and high electricity bills is holding a Maha Panchayat at Urja Bhawan today.
Under the leadership of the Naresh Tikat, National President, Bharatiya Kisan Union, farmers from the districts of Meerut division have started reaching Urja Bhavan. Farmers have also brought electricity meters along with them.
The farmers are opposing the decision of government to install meters on the tube wells The Bharatiya Kisan Union has met the officials of PVVNL several times and demanding not to install meters on the tube wells.
Bharatiya Kisan Union’s Meerut Mandal President Guddu Pradhan, Rajkumar Karnaval, Bablu Jitauli etc. says that the government is harassing the farmers. The farmers are not getting enough electricity and now government is forcibly trying to install meters on the tube wells. Farmer leaders claimed the Maha Panchayat at Urja Bhavan will be historic. Farmers are arriving since morning at the venue.
The strike by the Kisan Mazdoor Sangathan at the Urja Bhawan continued on Sunday as well. Arvind Malappa Bangari, Managing Director of PVVNL and ACM interacted with the delegation of farmers at Urja Bhavan Auditorium. In the meeting that lasted for an hour, the PVVNL MD agreed to the local problems, but refused to abandon the plan to install meters on the tube wells. He said that the matter is at the government level. Farmers have warned of continuous agitation.
The agitation on Urja Bhavan will continue till June 30. The MD said that all the demands of the farmers at the local level would be considered.
