Massive Tragedy in Baghpat: Seven Dead, 40 Injured in Wooden Platform Collapse

Baghpat : A devastating accident occurred in Baghpat during the Nirvana Laddu Festival of Lord Adinath. A wooden structure, constructed in the Manastambha complex on Gandhi Road in Baraut, suddenly collapsed, leading to the death of seven devotees and injuries to around 40 others.

The wooden structure, which was part of the festival arrangements, gave way under the weight of the crowd. Devotees were trapped under the debris, resulting in chaos and panic at the site. Witnesses described the scene as harrowing, with blood-soaked devotees crying for help amidst the wreckage.

The unavailability of ambulances exacerbated the tragedy. Injured victims were transported to nearby hospitals in e-rickshaws due to the delay in proper medical assistance. This further highlighted the lack of preparedness for such large gatherings.

Upon receiving the information, the Baraut Kotwali Inspector arrived at the scene with a police force. Efforts to manage the chaos and rescue the trapped devotees were initiated promptly. However, the accident caused significant distress and widespread panic among the attendees.

Eyewitnesses reported a sudden crack in the wooden platform before it came crashing down, leaving no time for those on or around it to escape. The structure was reportedly not reinforced to handle the large crowd gathered for the festival, raising concerns over the quality of its construction.

Local authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. Questions are being raised about the safety measures taken by the organizers and the lack of medical preparedness for such an event. Community leaders have expressed their condolences to the victims’ families and are demanding accountability.

The incident has left the Jain community and residents of Baghpat in deep shock. While the injured are receiving treatment, the focus has shifted to ensuring that such tragedies are prevented in the future through better planning and safety measures.

This tragedy on a day of celebration has left the entire city mourning. Authorities have promised swift action and aid to the affected families.
