Literary and Cultural Council Organizes Speech Talent Hunt on Environment Conservation

Meerut: The final round of the speech talent hunt, “Environment Conservation: Issues and Solutions,” was conducted today at the Court Hall of the Vidhi Adhyayan Sansthan, Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut. This event was organized by the Literary and Cultural Council of Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut.

The screening round for this program was held on September 27, 2023, with a total of 117 students registering to participate. After the screening round, the top 15 students were selected to compete in the final round.

The inauguration of the program was attended by esteemed guests, including Professor Bhupendra Singh, Student Welfare Administrator, Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut; Professor Jay Mala, Department Head of Science; Professor Yogendra Gautam, Department of Physics; Dr. Nazia Tarnnum, Department of Chemistry; Dr. Divya, Sir Chhotu Ram Engineering Institute; and Dr. Vivek Kumar, Program Coordinator. The event began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp in front of Goddess Saraswati.

During his presidential address, Professor Bhupendra Singh acquainted the students with the rules and significance of public speaking. He emphasized the fundamental aspects of effective speech and highlighted the importance of public engagement in speech delivery. Additionally, he provided insights into various national and international programs related to environmental conservation taking place at the present time.

Professor Jay Mala encouraged the students, inspiring them to go beyond speeches and make a commitment to environmental conservation. She stressed that mere speeches were not enough and that the students should take initiatives to contribute practically to environmental preservation.

Dr. Bhavna Singh, the program’s assistant coordinator, briefed the participants on the competition’s rules after the welcome speeches. Each participant presented their thoughts on environmental conservation, touching upon subjects such as sustainable development, blind consumerism, the Namami Gange program, the Chipko movement, plastic waste, and the G-20’s green development agreement.

In addition, participants discussed the significance of environmental protection, referencing the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi and verses from the Bhagavad Gita. They also highlighted various methods and approaches to environmental conservation.

Dr. Vivek Kumar, the program coordinator, praised the efforts of all participants and underscored the importance of power-packed speeches in advocating for environmental protection. He suggested that outstanding participants should be recognized and rewarded at the university level, encouraging them to continue their contributions to environmental conservation.

Dr. Yogendra Gautam proposed the idea of honoring participants at the national and international levels, offering certificates and financial rewards. Dr. Nazia Tarnnum emphasized the importance of motivating students to take action beyond their speeches, converting their words into practical initiatives for environmental protection.

The results of the competition were announced by Dr. Nazia Tarnnum, with Saiyada Jamal Jaidi securing the first position, followed by Deepti Vidhuri in second place and Lavi Tyagi in third place.

The closing ceremony was presided over by Dr. Apeksha Chaudhary, the assistant dean. The event was also attended by Sudeshna, Dr. Vikas Kumar, Dr. Sushil Kumar Sharma, Dr. Meenakshi, Shaikh Arshad, Garvita Yadav, Prajna Jindal, Atul Kumar, Shivani Mittal, Sohan Veer, and other university students.
