Legal Literacy and Awareness Program on Child Protection Held at Government Observation Home (Juvenile), Meerut

Meerut: In a step towards promoting legal literacy and awareness on child protection laws, a comprehensive program was organized at the Government Observation Home for Juveniles in Meerut. The initiative, which focused on the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act and the Rights of Children, aimed to impart legal literacy and awareness to the young residents.

The event was presided over by Hariram, Additional District Judge/Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Meerut, who shed light on the significance of such programs in fostering awareness about the legal rights and protections afforded to juveniles.

Ajit Kumar, District Probation Officer, and Satish Kumar Yadav, Superintendent, Government Observation Home (Juvenile), Meerut, were also present at the event, providing valuable insights and support to the cause.

The program included free legal assistance, medical check-ups, educational support, sports activities, and discussions on various aspects of child welfare. Participants engaged in interactive sessions, fostering a better understanding of their rights and the available legal recourse.

Hariram emphasized the commitment of the legal system to protect the rights and well-being of juveniles, ensuring their proper rehabilitation and reintegration into society. He encouraged open communication between the residents and the authorities, aiming to address their concerns and provide necessary support.

The legal literacy and awareness program align with the action plan for the year 2023-2024 released by the Uttar Pradesh State Legal Services Authority, Lucknow. Such initiatives play a pivotal role in empowering young individuals with knowledge about their rights and legal protections.

The event concluded with a commitment to continuing efforts to promote legal literacy and awareness, ensuring that every juvenile resident is well-informed about their rights and receives the necessary support for their holistic development.
