Meerut, July 26, 2025 :
In a stirring display of patriotism and reverence, the Western UP Sub Area Headquarters organized a heartfelt tribute at the Pine Division War Memorial, Meerut Cantonment, to mark Kargil Vijay Diwas. This annual observance on July 26th commemorates India’s decisive victory in the Kargil War of 1999 and honors the brave soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice during Operation Vijay.

The ceremony was led by Major General Sumit Rana, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Western UP Sub Area, and witnessed the presence of several senior military dignitaries including Major General Sandeep Puri (GOC, Charging Ram Division), Major General Lalit Kapoor (Commander, Base Workshop Group), Brigadier Sudheer K.P. (Acting GOC, Pine Division), and Brigadier Nikhil Deshpande (Station Commander). The solemn occasion was also attended by numerous veterans, serving officers, soldiers, and their families.
As the military band played soulful tunes evoking a deep sense of national pride, wreaths were ceremoniously laid at the memorial in honor of the fallen heroes of the Kargil conflict. The moment served as a powerful reminder of the courage and devotion with which the Indian Army defended the nation’s frontiers in one of the most challenging high-altitude wars in modern history.

A key highlight of the ceremony was the felicitation of the Veer Naris—the resilient women who lost their husbands in the line of duty but continue to stand tall as symbols of unwavering strength and patriotism. Among those honored were Babita Devi, Urmila, Babita, and Vimlesh Devi, who were presented with awards of appreciation and encouragement for their extraordinary fortitude and enduring spirit.
Military officials paid homage to several martyrs from Meerut district whose names have been etched in the annals of India’s military history. These include:

- Sapper Satish Kumar (Sena Medal)

Their personal loss was acknowledged as a national debt that can never be repaid but will forever inspire generations to come. The event stood as a moving reminder that while the battlefield may claim lives, the legacy of valor lives on eternally.
