Meerut, 27 April 2025 – On a sweltering Sunday when much of the nation stands stunned by the cries of the innocent, a beacon of hope and action has emerged from Uttar Pradesh, particularly from the historic city of Meerut.
In a unique and inspiring initiative, Dr. Ankur Tyagi led a major health and sanitation drive that transformed an ordinary Sunday into an extraordinary display of service, health awareness, and disaster preparedness. The event, organized at the Police Line Health Centre, involved a dedicated team of 25 members and brought together health workers, sanitation workers, and fire service personnel for a cause larger than themselves.

A Day of Multi-Faceted Impact
The initiative included:
- Fire safety training for health and sanitation workers.
- Door-to-door visits by ASHA, Anganwadi, and ANM workers, reaching 985 households.
- Distribution of health kits.
- Issuance of 70+ Ayushman Health Cards, ABHA Cards, and NIKSHAY IDs for TB tracking.
- Vaccination drives and pregnancy check-ups for expectant mothers.
- Deworming tablets for children.
- Family planning and ORS corners to raise health awareness.
- Street cleaning, fogging, and colorful rangoli art by municipal staff to promote cleanliness.
- Anti-tobacco, anti-alcohol, and anti-gutkha awareness through informative pamphlets.
The event aimed not just to serve but to awaken a sense of civic responsibility among residents.

Leaders Lead by Example
The health camp was inaugurated by Additional Municipal Commissioner, Ms. Lavi Tripathi, who not only formally launched the program but also personally underwent a blood pressure check, setting a powerful example. She praised the initiative and emphasized that it perfectly embodies the spirit of a “Karma Yogi” — someone who transcends duty through selfless service.
Local councilor Mr. Pawan Chaudhary played a vital role by mobilizing his ward’s citizens, promoting the message of “Stay Clean, Stay Healthy.”
A special health camp was also organized at Indira Chowk Park, where citizens from Ward 29 underwent tests for blood pressure, blood sugar, hemoglobin, and tuberculosis. The Disha team conducted HIV and syphilis screenings for 22 individuals, with one VDRL positive case identified and referred for further care.
“Maa Arogya Mitra”: Health Champions for Every Home
One of the most heartwarming elements of the initiative was the launch of the “Maa Arogya Mitra” concept — the vision that every household should have a health advocate to ensure overall wellness.
Key areas of focus included:
- Disaster Preparedness (Heat Waves, Fire Safety)
- Emergency Kit Awareness
- Ayushman Card Registration
- TB-Free Campaign
- Home Remedies and Healthy Lifestyle Promotion
- Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Screening
- Awareness about malaria, dengue, chikungunya
- Adolescent STD counseling
- Promoting use of emergency helplines like 102 and 108
- Family Planning advocacy
The councilor’s office also set up special Heatwave ORS Corners and Family Planning Corners to support the community’s needs.
Moving Forward
This massive outreach, led by Dr. Ankur Tyagi along with Pawan Chaudhary, Neeraj, Sunil Manotia, NCC students, and Dharmendra’s team, marked a new chapter in community-driven healthcare and sanitation.
The impact of this drive will be measured and reviewed three days later, ensuring that the spirit of service continues to live on.
In the true sense, Meerut has shown that when an employee becomes a Karma Yogi, even a single day can create waves of change.
