Fake Mawa Worth Over ₹5 Lakh Seized in Meerut; 2,500 kg Confiscated in Major Food Safety Raid

Meerut : In a major crackdown ahead of the festive season, the Food Safety Department in Meerut seized around 2,500 kilograms of adulterated mawa (milk solids) worth over ₹5 lakh during a raid conducted in the city’s Khoya Mandi area. The spurious mawa was reportedly meant to be supplied across Meerut and neighboring districts during Diwali.

The operation was carried out under the supervision of Chief Food Safety Officer Deepak Kumar, whose team has been conducting consistent raids in the rural and urban regions to curb the sale of adulterated food items. Acting on a tip-off, the team raided a godown in Khoya Mandi and discovered a large stock of fake mawa being prepared for distribution to sweet shops.

Officials suspect that synthetic ingredients and non-dairy fats were being used to produce the counterfeit mawa, posing a serious threat to public health. Samples have been collected and sent for laboratory testing, while the department has begun further investigation to identify the network behind the operation.

Deepak Kumar stated that the department will continue its vigilance drive to ensure that no adulterated products reach the market during the festive period. He also appealed to citizens and shopkeepers to remain alert and immediately report any suspicious food manufacturing activities.
