Char Dham Yatra 22 People Killed Six Injured Bus Falls Into Gorge Uttarkashi

UTTARKASHI: At least 22 people have died and six have been injured after a bus taking visitors to Yamunotri crashed into a canyon near Damta in Uttarkashi district, according to Uttarakhand officials.   The bus was carrying 28 pilgrims from Madhya Pradesh’s Panna area to Yamunotri.   Senior officials have raced to the scene, including Uttarkashi District Magistrate Abhishek Ruhela.

The six people who were hurt were taken to the hospital for treatment.   “Police and the SDRF are on the scene,” Uttarakhand DGP Ashok Kumar said. Yamunotri is well-known, as are the sanctuaries of Badrinath, Kedarnath, and Gangotri.

Nityanand Rai, the Minister of State for Home Affairs, told ANI that the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is going to the scene and will arrive at any time. According to the Uttarakhand chief minister’s office, CM Pushkar Singh Dhami went to the Dehradun Disaster Control Room to report a bus accident in the Uttarkashi district. He ordered the district administration to expedite relief and rescue efforts, as well as medical treatment for the injured.

After a bus transporting 28 pilgrims to Yamunotri crashed down a canyon in Uttarkashi, the Prime Minister’s office declared an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for the relatives of the deceased and Rs 50,000 apiece for the injured on Sunday.

Three Maharashtra pilgrims died and ten others were injured after their car crashed into a deep valley in Uttarkashi district on May 27.   Nearly 30 individuals died in the first ten days of the Char Dham Yatra.   The state health department requested comprehensive data on the deaths from chief medical officers (CMOs) of Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, and Chamoli districts, where the four venerated temples are located, after 27 pilgrims died during the Char Dham yatra since it began on 3 May. In the majority of cases, cardiac arrest has been suspected as the cause of death.
