CBI Nabs CGHS Additional Director and Two Others in ₹50 Lakh Bribery Case in Meerut

Meerut: In a major anti-corruption operation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested the Additional Director of the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS), along with an office superintendent and a private individual, on charges of demanding and accepting a bribe from a prominent private hospital group.
According to the complaint, the accused officials visited the hospital premises on July 8, 2025, as part of a surprise inspection. After pointing out minor shortcomings, they allegedly issued notices and threatened to de-panel the hospitals from the CGHS list. The complainant alleged that to avoid de-empanelment, the officials demanded a bribe of ₹50 lakh.
Following negotiations, the amount was allegedly settled in parts, and the accused agreed to accept the first installment of ₹5 lakh on August 12, 2025. Acting on the tip-off, the CBI laid a trap and caught the officials red-handed while accepting the cash.
Search operations were carried out at the residential premises of all three accused, and key documents and electronic evidence were seized. The CBI has confirmed that further investigation is underway to uncover the full extent of the bribery network and any possible involvement of other officials.
The case has once again highlighted the urgent need for stronger oversight in the healthcare empanelment process under CGHS, a system meant to provide quality healthcare to government employees and pensioners.
