Meerut, Uttar Pradesh : Tensions flared in a recent session of the Meerut Nagar Nigam Board meeting as councilors from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) accused their counterparts from other parties, particularly targeting female Dalit councilors, of physical assault and using derogatory language.
The incident unfolded during a heated debate when councilors Asif, Fazal Karim, and Rizwan Ansari allegedly made offensive remarks against female Dalit councilors, sparking a brawl. Following the altercation, councilors Ashish Chaudhary and Kuldeep Kirti Ghopala reportedly engaged in inappropriate behavior towards the women, leading to an official complaint filed by councilor Pavan Chaudhary at Delhi Gate Police Station.
In response to the complaint, BJP leaders Shivkumar Rana and Suresh Jain Rituraj expressed their dissatisfaction with the police’s handling of the case, claiming that no formal case had been registered despite the severity of the allegations. The BJP leaders accused the police of negligence and demanded a thorough investigation into the matter.
Alleging that the accused councilors had engaged in criminal activities, the BJP leaders called for prompt action against them to ensure justice for the aggrieved parties. The leaders emphasized the need for a fair and unbiased investigation to uphold the principles of justice and equality.
In a meeting with Inspector General (IG) Nachiketa Jha on Tuesday, BJP leaders discussed their concerns and sought assurance that a proper investigation would be conducted. The IG assured the BJP leaders that a thorough inquiry would be carried out, and appropriate action would be taken against those found guilty.
The incident has intensified political tensions in Meerut, with the BJP demanding accountability and justice for their councilors. The outcomes of the investigation will likely have significant repercussions on the political landscape in the region.
