Bappi Lahiri passes away; Disco King of India breathes his last in Mumbai hospital

Legendary singer and musician Bappi Lahiri died on February 15. He was 69 years old. The actor’s health deteriorated and he was brought to the hospital in a critical state yesterday. He passed away at 11.45 pm on February 15. His cremation will be held tomorrow, February 17, at Pawan Hans Crematorium, Mumbai. Lahiri’s family is waiting for his son, Bappa, to arrive from the US.

Bappi Lahiri had been ill for a long time and was being treated at Criti Care Hospital. Last year, Bappi Da was also infected with Corona virus. The hospital issued an official statement about Bappi Lahiri and how he was brought in a critical condition. Bappi Lahiri was suffering from OSA- Obstructive Sleep Apnea and recurrent chest infection. He was treated by Dr.Deepak Namjoshi. He was hospitalised in Criticare Hospital, Juhu for 29 days with this. He recovered well and was discharged home on 15 February. However, after a day at home, his health again deteriorated and he was brought back to Criticare hospital Juhu in a critical state and succumbed to his illness at about 11.45 pm. He suffered from Covid infection last year. He had OSA since last 1 year. He was admitted on multiple occasions in Criticare Hospital under treatment of Dr.Deepak Namjoshi and recovered on all occasions.

He gave hit songs in Bengali films like Amar Sangeet, Asha O Bhalobasha, Amar Tumi, Amar Prem, Mandira, Badnaam, Raktalekha, Priya. He played in the 1980s and 1990s for film soundtracks like Vardat, Disco Dancer, De De Pyaar De, Dilli Ka Raat, Bombay Se Aaya, Raat Baaki Baat Baaki, Namak Halal, Sharabi, Dance Dance, Commando, Saheb, Gang Leader, Sailab. became popular together.


Born on 27 November 1952 in Kolkata, Bappi Lahiri had made a different identity in the film industry due to his different style. Among the people, he is recognized as a musician who is always loaded with gold ornaments. He has sung many hit songs during his journey. Bappi Lahiri loved to wear gold and always wore glasses.

He is survived by two children – a son, Bappa Lahiri, and a daughter, Rema Lahiri. Since Bappa is in the US, the family is waiting for his arrival. He will perform Bappi Lahiri’s last rites. Bappa is married to Taneesha Lahiri, daughter of action director Mahendra Verma.

Bappi Lahiri’s family informed fans about the demise with profound sadness. Their statement is as follows:

“It’s a deeply sad moment for us. The cremation will take place on the arrival of Bappa from LA tomorrow mid morning. We are seeking love and blessings for his soul. We will keep you updated – Mrs .Lahiri, Mr.Gobind Bansal, Bappa Lahiri, Rema lahiri (sic).”
