Army Commemorates Jessore Victory Day at Pine Memorial, Pays Tribute to Heroes

Meerut : The Indian Army commemorated Jessore Victory Day with a solemn ceremony at the historic Pine Memorial in Meerut, paying tribute to the brave soldiers who laid down their lives during the 1971 Indo-Pak war. This day marks the liberation of Jessore, a significant milestone in India’s decisive victory and the creation of Bangladesh.

The event witnessed the presence of senior army officers, war veterans, and cadets from local schools, who gathered to honor the valor and sacrifice of those who fought in the Battle of Jessore. Floral tributes were offered at the war memorial, followed by a moment of silence in remembrance of the martyrs.

An officer highlighted the strategic importance of the Jessore victory in the 1971 war. He stated, “The Jessore victory was the first major success in the Eastern Sector, which paved the way for the liberation of Bangladesh. This day reminds us of the courage and selflessness of our soldiers.”

The event also included a brief documentary screening about the 1971 war, recounting the pivotal moments that led to the surrender of Pakistani forces. Students and cadets participated in a poetry recital and essay competition on the theme of patriotism and sacrifice.

War veteran Colonel (Retd.) Ashok Singh shared his experiences from the 1971 conflict, inspiring the younger generation to uphold the values of duty and nationhood. “This day is not just about remembering the past but also about reaffirming our commitment to the nation’s security and sovereignty,” he said.

The Jessore Victory Day celebration concluded with a patriotic musical performance by the Army Band, leaving the attendees filled with pride and gratitude for the armed forces.

Such commemorations serve as a reminder of the sacrifices made by the Indian Army and inspire the citizens to cherish and safeguard the hard-earned freedom.
