Traffic Cop Assaulted in Ghaziabad for Stopping Wrong-Side Driver, Accused Arrested

Ghaziabad: A traffic constable was brutally attacked with a stone on Wednesday evening in Ghaziabad’s Indirapuram area after he attempted to stop a car driving on the wrong side. The incident occurred near Delhi Public School, Indirapuram, leaving the policeman with a severe head injury.

According to police, traffic constable Shashikant was on duty, checking vehicles as part of routine enforcement, when he spotted a car approaching from the wrong direction. On signaling the driver to stop, the man got out of his vehicle, picked up a stone lying nearby, and struck the constable on the head. Shashikant collapsed on the spot, while the accused fled.

The injured constable was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors confirmed he had sustained a serious injury but is now stable and out of danger.

Taking swift action, Indirapuram police identified and arrested the accused within hours. He has been named as Gaurav Chaudhary, a resident of the Indirapuram area. Police have also seized the vehicle and are investigating Chaudhary’s criminal background.

ACP Indirapuram Abhishek Srivastava confirmed the incident, stating, “Constable Shashikant was performing his duty when he was attacked with a stone by a driver attempting to go on the wrong side. The accused has been arrested, and further investigations are underway.”

The assault on a traffic policeman while discharging his duties has sparked outrage, highlighting the growing risks faced by frontline officers in maintaining road discipline and public safety.
