Saharanpur Election 2022 Voting: Queues at booths in Saharanpur, EVMs malfunctioning in many places, boycott elections in Gangoh

Voting  for the second phase in Saharanpur began at 7 am on Monday. People had already reached the booths. Voting is being held amidst tight security. Voters lined up at the Pink Polling Station set up in Nanautas Kisan Sevak Inter College. At the same time, thermal scanning of voters is also being done at the polling stations. Long queues were seen at some booths.

Long queues were seen at the Jhabiran polling station in Gangoh assembly to cast votes. Voters queue up at booth number one of DC Jain Inter College polling station in Sarsawa, a town in Nakud assembly constituency. A large number of people reached the polling booth of Todarpur in the morning to vote. Queues of women voters were seen at the polling booth of Janata Inter College in Behat. Voting is going on smoothly now.

Defects in EVMs at some places

At the same time, at the polling booth of village Kolakhedi, voters started casting their votes with enthusiasm. Booth no 12 EVM is not working at Janata Inter College polling station in Behat. Not a single vote has been cast here till 9 am. After this, even two EVMs brought did not work. Due to machine failure at booth number 136 of Deoband assembly, not a single vote could be cast so far. Preparation for installation of second EVM.

Election boycott in Gangoh

Villagers boycotted voting in village Padh of Ambehata of Gangoh Legislative Assembly. The villagers alleged on one side that four days ago an attempt was made to kidnap the girl on the strength of a gun. In which the police did not take proper action. On the contrary, he tried to suppress this incident. The villagers boycotted the voting and demanded action. The total electorate at booth number 67 of the village is 994 while 114 votes were cast by the same society. A huge crowd of villagers has gathered at one place in the village. Women are raising slogans against the administration by climbing on the roofs.

Death of presiding officer

Nakud : Rashid Ahmed, 55, the presiding officer posted at booth number 227 in Dhika Tapri village of Sarsawa area, suddenly deteriorated on Sunday night. He was admitted to a private hospital in Saharanpur in the night itself. Where he passed away .Rashid Ahmed had reached village Dhika Kala on Sunday evening for duty. The deceased was a teacher in the education department in Gagalhedi.


Voting started at 7 am in all the polling booths in the district. At many polling booths, the villagers stood in line even before the start of the polling. However, at several polling booths in Behat and Bargaon, polling was delayed due to malfunctioning of EVMs. Polling started almost an hour late in both the places. From the point of view of security, District Magistrate Akhilesh Kumar Singh and SSP Akash Tomar are roaming in the same vehicle at every polling booth. Most of the youths reached the polling booths first to cast their votes. The candidates of different parties, who were fielded in all the seven seats, also came to cast their votes along with their wives. Till 9 am, 12.4 per cent voting had taken place in the district.

The Deputy District Election Officer said that with regard to the voters photo identity card, writing errors, spelling errors, etc. should be ignored, provided the identity of the elector can be ascertained. If it is not possible to ascertain the identity of the elector due to mismatch with photograph etc., then the elector will have to produce an alternate photographic document.
