Amid growing concern over the highly contagious Omicron variant of coronavirus, a senior doctor at Delhi said that majority of patients infected by the new variant of concern recovered without any medications and had no symptoms.
Speaking to news agency ANI, Dr Suresh Kumar, MD of LNJP Hospital, said that a total of 51 Omicron patients were admitted at the facility out of which 40 have been successfully discharged and none of the patients was given oxygen support, steroid, or Remdesivir drug.
A total of 422 Omicron cases have been detected across 17 states and Union territories in India so far and 130 of these people have recovered or migrated, according to Union Health Ministry data updated on Sunday.
The government data suggested that 70 per cent of Omicron cases were asymptomatic while there were symptoms in 30 per cent cases. While 73 per cent of the new variant cases or 121 cases have a history of foreign travel, while 27 per cent of the cases were detected among those who have no foreign travel history, the analysis of the 183 Omicron cases showed.
