Kanwar Yatra Prompts School Closures in Ghaziabad from July 29 to August 2

Ghaziabad: In anticipation of the annual Kanwar Yatra, authorities have announced the closure of schools in Ghaziabad from July 29 to August 2. The decision aims to ensure the safety and convenience of students amidst the significant disruptions caused by the religious pilgrimage.

The Kanwar Yatra is a traditional Hindu pilgrimage dedicated to Lord Shiva. During the holy month of Shravan (July-August), millions of devotees, known as Kanwariyas, undertake the journey to collect sacred water from the Ganges River, which they carry back to their local Shiva temples. The pilgrimage has ancient roots and symbolizes devotion, penance, and spiritual cleansing. Participants often travel on foot, covering long distances with their Kanwars (decorated bamboo structures) balanced on their shoulders.

The Kanwar Yatra significantly impacts traffic across the Delhi NCR region. With millions of devotees traversing highways and major roads, authorities face the challenge of ensuring smooth traffic flow and minimizing congestion. Key routes often see partial or complete closures, and special lanes are designated for Kanwariyas to prevent accidents and facilitate their journey. Public transport services are adjusted, and additional personnel are deployed to manage the influx of pilgrims and maintain order.

In response to the anticipated disruptions, the Ghaziabad administration has decided to close schools for five days. This proactive measure aims to protect students from potential traffic hazards and alleviate the burden on local transport services. With the Kanwar Yatra expected to draw substantial crowds, school buses and private vehicles would face significant delays.

Local authorities have assured that essential services will remain operational and that adequate measures are in place to manage the Kanwar Yatra’s impact on daily life.

Traffic police and volunteers will be stationed along key routes to assist Kanwariyas and direct vehicular movement. Medical camps and emergency services will be available to address any health concerns among pilgrims.

As the Kanwariyas embark on their sacred journey, the community comes together to ensure their safe passage and the well-being of all residents.
