Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh: A tragic yet heroic incident unfolded in Kaushambi, Vaishali, on Thursday when a woman attempted to jump into the canal from the 5 Number Culvert. In a swift and selfless response, two traffic personnel , TSI Dharmendra Pawar and Constable Ankit Tomar jumped into the waters to save her.
While TSI Pawar was safely rescued, Constable Ankit Tomar tragically drowned during the rescue attempt. The rescue operation, led by the Police, Fire Brigade, and NDRF teams, lasted over two and a half hours. Eventually, Ankit Tomar’s body was pulled from the canal and rushed to Max Hospital in Vaishali, where he was declared dead.
ACP Traffic and senior officers arrived at the scene as the operation unfolded. The woman who jumped into the canal was also rescued and is currently under medical supervision.

The incident has left the city in mourning, with Constable Tomar being hailed as a martyr who sacrificed his life in the line of duty. His brave act is a stark reminder of the risks that police personnel take every day to protect citizens, often at the cost of their own lives.
The local administration and police department are expected to pay tribute to Ankit Tomar’s ultimate sacrifice.
