₹10 Crore GST Scam Busted: Chinese Woman and Indian Businessman Arrested in Noida, Courtroom Drama Steals Spotlight

Noida/Meerut. A sensational case of tax evasion has rocked Noida, exposing a network of fraudulent practices in the manufacturing sector. A company producing television display units has been accused of evading over ₹10 crore in GST through misclassification of products and under-invoicing. The crackdown by GST authorities led to the arrest of two individuals — Alice Li, a Chinese national, and Vinay Kumar, her Indian associate.

How the Scam Worked

Investigators revealed that the company deliberately misclassified its products to evade higher tax rates. Television display units, which should attract 28% GST, were falsely declared under a category attracting only 18% GST. This manipulation saved nearly 10% tax on each product. Coupled with under-invoicing — selling products at full price in cash but showing reduced values on invoices — the company managed to siphon off crores of rupees over a sustained period.

Arrest and Courtroom Drama

The duo was arrested and presented before the Special CJM Court in Meerut. While Vinay Kumar is being projected as the mastermind, Alice Li’s dramatic behavior stole the limelight. During the hearing before Special CJM Durgesh Nandini, Li shouted in English and Chinese, claiming she was being falsely implicated “only because she is Chinese.” The outburst disrupted proceedings, with police struggling to pacify her.

Tantrums at the Police Station

The drama did not stop at court. Held at Meerut’s women’s police station, Li refused to eat standard meals, demanding chicken ordered online and only branded bottled water, rejecting the RO water provided by police. Officers confirmed that she consumed only food and beverages of her personal choice, causing further embarrassment to the authorities.

Criminal Past Exposed

Further digging revealed that Alice Li, also known as Li Tengli, had a murky past. In September 2021, she was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh ATS for procuring SIM cards using forged documents, which were later used in fraudulent bank transactions worth nearly ₹5 crore. Her visa had expired in 2020, yet she continued residing in India illegally, running operations with local associates.

Authorities Step In

GST officials from Gautam Buddh Nagar confirmed that multiple company employees were interrogated, records cross-verified, and incriminating documents seized. The department has initiated recovery proceedings to claim the lost revenue, while also probing other potential beneficiaries of the racket. Officials believe that more names could surface as the investigation widens.

The Bigger Picture

This case highlights once again how domestic and foreign networks collude to cheat the exchequer through sophisticated financial frauds. With Alice Li and Vinay Kumar in judicial custody, the spotlight now shifts to how swiftly authorities can dismantle the entire network.
