Bawariya Gang Leader Mithun, Carrying ₹1.25 Lakh Bounty, Killed in Police Encounter; Accomplice Flees
Shamli, Uttar Pradesh : In a major breakthrough against organised crime, police late Monday night gunned down Mithun, a notorious leader of the Bawariya gang who carried a ₹1.25 lakh bounty on his head. The encounter occurred on the Vedkhedi–Mansura road when a Special Operations Group (SOG) team attempted to intercept the duo.
According to police officials, Mithun and his associate Rahul opened indiscriminate fire upon being challenged. The SOG retaliated, killing Mithun on the spot, while Rahul managed to escape under the cover of darkness. A large-scale search operation has been launched to track him down.
Officer Injured in Exchange of Fire
During the encounter, SOG head constable Harvinder sustained a bullet injury and was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. In a narrow escape, a bullet tore through the jacket of Jhinjhana station in-charge Virendra Kasana, but he remained unharmed.
Crime History and Heightened Security
Mithun was wanted in multiple cases of robbery, dacoity, and armed assault across western Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan. His elimination is being viewed as a significant blow to the Bawariya gang’s operations in the region.
Following the encounter, police have intensified patrolling and cordoned off surrounding villages to prevent any retaliatory movement by gang members. Senior officers are supervising the manhunt for Rahul and reviewing intelligence inputs to ensure no further escalation.
The incident has once again spotlighted the persistent challenge posed by inter-state criminal gangs and the growing need for coordinated policing efforts.
