In Conversation: Rakul Preet launches app – Starring You
Actress Rakul Preet Singh’s half a dozen films are in line for release in the current year. Meanwhile, she has launched an app. Through this information about working in front of the camera and behind the camera in Bollywood will be shared. The name of the app is Staring You. Rakul has a special conversation with Local Post about the opportunities she gets from her films through this app. She also shared her experience of working with Ajay Devgn, Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar and Sidharth Malhotra.
How did this idea come about? How long did it take to build and bring it?
Its idea came in the lockdown, when the whole world had come to a kind of digital platform for their respective works. People were working from home. The goods were being ordered by couriers. So we thought why not provide digitally access to work in Bollywood to the common man. There are sites like LinkedIn and Naukri.com to find jobs in other professions. There is no such digital access to find work in Bollywood. That’s why we have come up with this app, through which people will be able to know the jobs in Bollywood. Through this, especially those talents of India will get access to this industry, who are talented, but are unable to get information due to living in remote areas.
You have six Hindi films coming up in the new year, how did you manage to shoot for them?
It is a coincidence that all the films are coming in the same year. The reality was that they were all shot on different occasions in the last 2 years. Yes, we have waited for their release due to Corona, but in the new year Attack, Runway-34, Mission Cinderella, Chhatriwali, Doctor Ji are ready to release. Apart from these, there are two three films Ready in South. Glad that people will get to see me on screen many times this year. These are all different genre films. It remains to be seen what kind of response people get for these films.
Share an interesting post-shoot meeting with Ajay, Siddharth, Akshay and Amitabh Bachchan?
Ajay sir is extremely technically sound. He is also a director, so he has a deep knowledge of camera, framing, cut, editing. I have worked with him as an actor in De De Pyaar De and as both actor and director in Runway-34. He is very expert and fast in everything from acting to technical things. Siddharth Malhotra is a very experimental actor. From Hasee Toh Phasee to Baar Baar Dekho, Jabariya Jodi, Marjawan or last years Sher Shah, there is variety in his work. He keeps on experimenting.
What can I say about Amit ji. I am lucky to have got a chance to work with him. He still rehearses a lot today. He also knows the lines of his fellow artists. Every day at the time of packup, they find out about the next day whether the lines are going to be there. He rehearses them all in advance. Even after so many years, he has child like excitement about his work, that is a matter for all of us to learn.
Akshay sir is very disciplined and he takes it very seriously just like a lifestyle. Only then he is maintaining a fine balance between professional and personal life. Rarely a single day of his year would go without a workout at 4.30 in the morning. I wake up early too. But on the shoot with him, it came to know that he wakes up earlier than us.
