₹3.1 Crore Cyber Scam Cracked: Key Accused Arrested in Bengaluru

Meerut, January 8: In a significant breakthrough, the Cyber Crime Police of Meerut arrested an accused involved in a ₹3.1 crore cyber fraud. The accused, identified as Prashant K.C., was apprehended in Bengaluru, Karnataka, after defrauding a local resident and his wife through a fake share market app.

The arrest comes after a month-long investigation into a complaint filed on October 23, 2024, by A.K. Agarwal, a resident of Ganganagar, Meerut. Agarwal reported losing ₹1.73 crore from his account and ₹1.37 crore from his wife’s account to the fraudulent app. The accused had lured the victims with promises of high returns through fake share subscriptions.

The Modus Operandi

The accused, Prashant K.C., opened a bank account in the name of a fake firm, HG Enterprises, using forged documents. He manipulated an acquaintance, Hanuman The Gowda, into providing personal information to open the account. The account and its registered mobile number were handed over to an associate named Prakash, who paid Prashant ₹3 lakh for the arrangement.

Prashant confessed to spending the ₹3 lakh received from Prakash and revealed that the fake firm was created solely to execute financial fraud.

Nationwide Scam

According to the NCRP portal, the accused is linked to 22 similar complaints across nine states. This highlights the extensive reach of the scam and its impact nationwide.

Police Operation and Evidence

A police team from Meerut, led by Inspectors K.P. Singh and Jaiprakash Yadav, traveled to Bengaluru to apprehend the accused. The operation resulted in the recovery of:

  • 1 mobile phone (Oppo, sky blue color)

The accused has been booked under multiple sections of the IPC, including Section 318(4) and 66D of the IT Act. Additional charges under Sections 338, 336(3), and 340(2) were added during the investigation.

Official Statements

Meerut SSP commended the efforts of the cybercrime team in cracking the case. “This arrest underscores the commitment of the police to curb cybercrimes and bring offenders to justice. We urge citizens to exercise caution and verify the authenticity of online platforms,” he said.

Court Proceedings

The accused was presented before the court today, where further legal proceedings will determine the next steps.
